On the basis of interrelated and often complicated relationships among each other, the series humorously portrays longtime friendships, past love stories, and the challenge of reconciling adult life with the longing for the past.
The main roles include How I Met Your Mother star Cobie Smulders as Lisa, Keegan-Michael Key as Ethan, Annie Parisse as Sam, Nat Faxon as Nick, Fred Savage as Max and Jae Suh Park as Marianne. Nicholas Stoller is the executive producer and director, while Francesca Delbanco is the author of this Netflix comedy.
Even the high-caliber cast cannot say that Friends from College has gone wrong. The first season does not come between half-virgin characters and irritating story lines. The comedy Friends From College has a brilliantly filled casting list. The theme seems to be tailored for the actors. And yet the first episode of the Netflix series disappoints somewhere between boredom and unpleasant characters.
What is the comedy Friends From College about?
We learn about Ethan (Keegan Michael Key, Playing House) and Sam (Annie Parisse, Person of Interest) in bed, or, better, besides the bed. We do not find any condoms and that leads to the question whether they are still necessary at all. The start of the Welcome to New York episode is still quite hopeful. But then we learn that Ethan is actually married to Lisa, who was also with the other two in Harvard. Sam, a successful designer, also has a man (Greg Germann, Ally McBeal) at her side.
To make the chaos perfect, Ethan and Lisa are about to move to New York, where the rest of their college cliques already live. In addition to Sam, they also include the unsuccessful new-age actress Marianne (Jae Suh Park), TrustFond-Erbe Nick (Nat Faxon, Married), and Agent Max (Fred Savage, The Wonder Years, The Grinder). The latter also started a relationship outside the friend circle, with Felix (Billy Eichner, Difficult People).
Since Ethan and Lisa still have no place in New York, they stay on Marianne's couch. At the same time, we learn that the two are struggling for a baby and are now going to Felix. Meanwhile, Sam contributes to ending the affair with Ethan and begins a therapy. But the plans of all three do not go so well.
Through the episodes, we are accompanied by a clique. Among other things, we see a session of wine tasting, and also a wedding.
